Statement:
I decry the cowardly attack by the reckless Georgian government. And seek greater oversight from USA government over its international “partners”.
Short summary of last 3 days of events:
Wednesday August 6, 2008 - Clashes broke out between Georgia’s army units and South Ossetian
Thursday August 7, 2008 – Georgian and South Ossetian side agreed to cease military activity.
Friday August 8, 2008 (4 hours later) – Georgian president ordered full out assault on South Ossetian capital city and villages around it, without any warning.
Current Status: As the result of Georgia’s attack on South Ossetia’s capital 1400 are dead, mostly civilians who were caught in Georgian artillery shelling.
Overall analysis:
The true reason the Bush administration propagating support for Georgia’s administration (which we can see in both statement from US secretary of state and the media) is the fact that there is an oil and natural gas pipeline running from Central Asia through Georgia. Which raises the question, have we not learned enough from supporting other militaristic, corrupt and totalitarian governments (Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan) in the name of national security and energy? Why do we keep spending our tax money on these tyrants?
Thus frankly I am a bit appalled by the one side story the USA media is projecting. South Ossetia and Russia are not the aggressor. Georgia's over zealous militaristic leadership is the aggressor. Georgia has been building up its military for the last 8 years for this tasks of forcefully retaking the South Ossetian territories. Georgia's troops are the biggest in the region - about 200,000 strong. Furthermore, I want to point out that Georgia is not alone - we the US of A send 10's of millions of dollars a year and many "training personnel" to fund Georgia’s military build up.
Georgia received a great amount of support from USA. It gets a lot of attention from the house and senate members. It gets a lot of attention from the press. Yet there has been little real progress for Georgian people due to corruption in the government. It has no real economy – main industry is military and scrap metal. It’s leaders are look up to Joseph Stalin (ethnically Georgian, once time ruler of USSR) - as the greatest leader Georgia’s history. His statues still stand in Georgia. If you remember, a few months back, Georgian government fired on un-armed Georgian protestors un-happy with government performance and election fraud. Is this really the face of USA spreading democracy in the middle East?
If we follow the money trail, we end up at Washington DC - thus it is US who is responsible for Georgia's over militaristic actions, as it determines who stays in power in Georgia. Georgia is cunning, as it using the US of A (tax dollars and military) resources to further Georgian leadership's goals. This is exactly how our other enemies got their "start" people like Saddam, Bin Laden and etc. It is as if we, the USA, do not learn from our mistakes. Do not fund over zealous nationalistic and corrupt governments and leaders – unless you plan to go to war with them a decades year later.
I want to further point out that the territory of South Ossetia - has not been part of Georgia, ever since Georgia separated from USSR in 1991. Thus it is not "territorial integrity" but masked aggression and a way to keep the focus away from the internal corruption and other problems in Georgia. While extolling extra bill onto the US of A tax payers.
Question that we should ask yourself is, do we want to start another conflict in the middle East?
